Dr Daniel Yew Mao Lim

Daniel works at the intersection of technology and public policy and is passionate about advancing evidence-based decision making in government. He currently leads a team of quantitative analysts at GovTech’s Data Science & Artificial Intelligence Division to collaborate with government agencies on data science projects. He also leads a team of policy officers at SNDGO’s Policy & Governance Directorate to develop and implement Singapore’s National Data Strategy. He previously served as the Special Assistant to GovTech’s Chief Executive and was involved in the organisational restructuring and formation of GovTech.
Daniel received a PhD in Government and a MA in Statistics from Harvard University, where he was also a member of Harvard’s Behavioural Insights Group. He holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in International Relations and International Political Economy from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
At GovTech data scientists apply big data to public policy, addressing issues as diverse as train breakdowns, customer segmentation for public services and topic modelling of customer feedback. This session will demystify the role of AI in informing public policy.
